Thomas Mulcair is the new Leader of the Opposition. The MP from Montreal overcame six challengers and technical delays at the March 23rd convention, winning the right to succeed Jack Layton. Many attribute the NDP’s unprecedented success in last election to Layton’s charisma and wonder if Mulcair can build on past gains moving foreword. Mulcair has a reputation as a centrist based on time serving in Quebec’s Liberal government but has urged unity and commitment to the NDP’s core principals.
